Hazard / Symptom
Hazard Harmful by inhalation. Toxic if swallowed.
The following applies to soluble barium compounds in general after swallowing: mucosal irritation, nausea, salivation, vomiting, dizziness, pain, colics, and diarrhoea. Systemic effects include: cardiac dysrhythmias, bradycardia (subdued cardiac activity), rise in blood pressure, shock and circulatory collapse as well as muscular rigidity.

Accidental release measures / Fire-fighting measures
Person-related precautionary measures Avoid generation of dusts; do not inhale dusts.
Procedures for cleaning / absorption Take up dry. Forward for disposal. Clean up affected area.
Environmental-protection measures Do not allow to enter sewerage system.
Suitable extinguishing media In adaption to materials stored in the immediate neighbourhood.

First aid
FIRST AID
After inhalation fresh air.
After skin contact wash off with plenty of water. Remove contaminated clothing.
After eye contact rinse out with plenty of water with the eyelid held wide open.
After swallowing make victim drink plenty of water, induce vomiting, summon doctor.
If breathing stops immediately apply mechanical ventilation, if necessary also oxygen.
Additional informations Subsequently administer: Sodium sulfate (1 tablespoon/1/4 l water).
If victim is unconscious: lateral recumbent position.
